Vietnam Veterans' Day Event (March 17, 2012)

Hosted by Thuy Smith International and Lake Hallie Eagle's Club
We want to acknowledge all Vietnam Era Veterans, their families, the Hmong, and Vietnamese. There is NO glory in war.
This day is about putting a face to the people whose lives were connected to the Vietnam War era and their stories.

It is a day to honor them, their stories, and the all lives that were lost.
Key not speaker was Steve Gilbertson, Retired Colonel and Army Pilot in Vietnam. He talked about the importance of getting things out by talking about them.

Doors opened to the community with displays of Veteran memorabilia and information on Veteran benefits and various Veteran Service organizations.

A Tribute took place at 1:30 pm to acknowledge various Veteran organizations such as the Highground, Vietnam Veterans of America, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Am Vets, and Disabled American Veterans, and our Hmong and Vietnamese Veterans. Banquet followed.

Main Speaker was Beth Martin from the Highground Memorial.  A Huey Helicopter was on display

Letter from next generation of Veterans
Thuy,

The University of Eau Claire’s Veterans Club members are proud to offer support for Vietnam Veterans Day. We understand that the sacrifices made by this generation of Veterans have paved the way for improved services and benefits for the current generation. We understand that working together is the only way to make a difference and also realize the importance of spreading awareness and support for all individuals affected by the Vietnam War.

Thank you to Thuy Smith and her hard work in pushing this issue to become a recognized day in the state of Wisconsin. We are honored to be involved and “still serving” our country through important events such as the 3rd annual banquet.

Miranda Cross- Schindler
Veteran Club Advisor
Thuy,

Thank you for letting us come and help you with Wisconsin
Vietnam Veterans Day this pass year. It was a great opportunity
to give back to Veterans who have given and done so much.
I am particularly thankful for what they have done for my
generation of Veterans.

When I took my first step off the plane state-side, there was
a Vietnam veteran to shake my hand; that meant a great
deal to me.

Thank you for all you do and please let us know if we can
help with any upcoming or future events,

John Bensend and the UW-Stout Veterans Club
President U.W. Stout Veterans Club
